A historic storm system prompted the National Weather Service to issue the first blizzard warning in the Los Angeles area since 1989. Snowmageddon 2023 brought heavy snow, flooding and white out conditions to the local mountains; dropping down to elevation levels that rarely see snow. This photo composition captured the essence of a city vs. nature juxtaposition. A telephoto lens was used to compress the industrial landscape spanning from the refinery and city skyline to the beautiful snow capped San Gabriel Mountains as the first morning light blasted onto the scene. In all my years photographing this city, this is the lowest I’ve ever seen the snow line.
