Fire Knows No Barrier
Fire does not wait at the checkpoint. It carries no documents, holds no passport, seeks no permission from the officers standing at the line. Where men have drawn borders into the earth — fencing ridge from ridge, forest from forest, nation from nation — fire simply moves. It reads no signage. It respects no demarcation. The orange line crawling across this hillside at dusk does not slow at the boundary wire, does not pause for the stamp of approval, does not turn back when the barrier says stop. We built our checkpoints out of law and concrete and the idea that a line, once drawn, holds. Fire was never told. This is not destruction without philosophy. This is a reminder, written in light: the earth did not draw those lines. Only we did. And the earth is not obliged to honor them. The checkpoint was never meant for fire. It was meant for people. And somehow, we forgot — which one of us is harder to stop.
