THE BOSS (Top Hat/Feather)

Scene 1: Introduction. THE BOSS (Top Hat/Feather) They call him The Boss because he died first. Not the oldest. The first to understand the game was rigged, so he stopped playing by the rules. The top hat? He stole it off a preacher in his life before death. Said, "If I'm going to hell, I'm going dressed better than the man sending me there." Had it embroidered in gold, every swirl is a debt someone owed him, every flicks is a town he bought. The feather? That's from a crow that sat on his coffin for three days and wouldn't leave. He kept it. Said it was the only loyal thing he ever owned. He never speaks at the table. He just opens his briefcase first. Gold stacked neat, jewels sorted by size. Perfect order. Because in life, chaos made him nervous. In death, he controls what little he can. He smokes, but there's no cigarette. Just smoke from nowhere, curling around that feather, making the gold sparkle a little less. The other two always wait for him, because in The Afterlife, Bow Tie may count the money, Ribcage may carry the weight. But Top Hat decides if the case stays open. And tonight? It's staying open.
