Brought Up Culture

A series of photographs from the documentary called "Kaaman koothu" , which is a cultural dance art practice by Malayaha people (Up country) in Sri Lanka. Brought by Indian Tamil immigrants in post-1815. It is a vibrant, overnight, dance drama (koothu) depicting the story of Manmathan (Kaman) destroying Lord Shiva's meditation, being burned, and his wife Rathi's lamentation. [Indian were brought up British as wages to work on the tea hills] It serves as both entertainment and a vital cultural link for the community, showcasing traditional music, dance, and storytelling.
