It is A vivid portrait of a native man from Zazzau, in Northern Nigeria. The unique hairstyle, tribal mark and poignant eyes caught my attention when i was out shooting on this day. Zazzau was founded around the 11th century. It rose to prominence as a major center of trade, Islamic learning, and military power under the famous warrior “Queen Amina of Zazzau” in the 16th century, who expanded its territory as far as the Niger River. Today, Zazzau is a powerful traditional emirate within Northern Nigeria, with its headquarters in the city of Zaria. It remains a custodian of Hausa-Fulani culture and Islamic tradition, led by the Emir of Zazzau (Sarkin Zazzau).
