Lofa
Lofa is Irish for rotten. It's the word for rotten food and for a system that's corrupt. This collection treats memory as lo-fi, corruptible data that rots and fills its gaps with something new.
Memory is mutable. Each time we recall something the brain has to store it again and it can change in the process. Neuroscientists call this reconsolidation.
Each piece starts from footage of a place or a moment I can't return to. The footage is corrupted at the source, recoloured in my illustration palette and run through a seeded datamosh engine made for the collection. Public-domain poetry about memory is written into the image and left to rot with it.
The pieces are interactive HTML on an immutable blockchain. The file never changes but what it shows changes every time someone touches it. It loops without ever showing the clean original.
