Santa Maria della Salute rises across the water, built by a city that survived plague by making a promise to God and keeping it in marble. Everyone comes to photograph her — the dome, the scrollwork, the way she sits at the mouth of the Grand Canal like a benediction. Nobody photographs this. A wooden hut on stilts, patched and weathered, an antenna and a CCTV dome bolted to its roof. A gondola moored beside it, motionless, waiting for tourists who haven't arrived yet. It watches the same water the basilica was built to bless — just through a different kind of lens. This is the other Venice: not the one built to be seen, but the one built to see.
