Two Windows, A Lifetime
In a mud-brick house in the stepped village of Masuleh, a remote and historic village in northern Iran’s Gilan Province, an elderly woman and man have lived side by side for many years. They left their youth in this very house—with the laughter of their children and the hardships of life.
The children grew up and left, and the house grew quieter. Now, every day, they stand by the window, waiting for footsteps that may appear from around the bend in the alley.
No words pass between them; their gaze is the continuation of a lifetime of quiet love. She pours the tea, and he softly says, “They will come.”
And even if they are late, the world of these two is still contained within this house and in the short distance between two windows.
