Motherly Refuge
In a remote village in Gilan province, northern Iran, a mother stands in the wooden frame of her mudbrick house's window. One of her children rests in her arms, while the other sits beside her. Her gaze, tired yet dignified, reflects both sorrow and strength. The children’s eyes also hold a quiet sadness, mixed with hope and a longing for comfort.
The window is bordered with red and blue—colors not just for beauty, but used purposefully to keep away flies and mosquitoes, a simple yet effective solution in the absence of proper sanitation.
Life here is full of hardship—from harsh winters to lack of healthcare—but the mother remains standing, a strong refuge for her children, keeping alive a humble home filled with love and meaning.
