The Last Breath Of Dreams
She is still alive.
Amidst the ruins of her classroom, the young girl reflects—
Her dreams remain alive, even though the war has left her the sole survivor of her entire family.
The dream of returning home,
The dream of an eternal love with a kindred spirit,
And the dream of her homeland’s freedom.
She tells herself: "Surely, I can reach my goal even with just one leg; I have friends who lost both their arms and both their legs in the war,
yet they still stand firm—like olive trees."
Her dreams are still alive, and with boundless determination, she strives to turn them into reality.
Yes, the little girl’s dreams are still alive—
Even if she senses a layer of dust settling over all her memories,
Even if her entire sketchbook has been scribbled over,
Even if the dust of war has left its mark upon the images in her mind.
And she will, most certainly, taste the flavor of freedom—
The freedom of her homeland.
