Eternally unforgettable was this moment while crossing the Aoukar, one of the most remote, desolate, and isolated areas of the Mauritanian desert, where even locals consider it harsh and dangerous with no shelter, no water, no life. We encountered a chamelier, astonished to see a vehicle among the dunes. We asked him for guidance on the route. Lemin invited him to ride with us, helping us follow the right direction for a few kilometers. We momentarily took him away from his camels and pasture, traveling together until we stopped to continue alone. The two men spoke, clarified the route, and we left the chamelier bewildered in the middle of the desert, perhaps smiling at us before we resumed our journey. For the rest of the trip, we wondered if he ever found his way back to his camels.
