Through the desert winds of 2022 we met Fatema, a young woman who had already endured the loss of her husband in a car accident. She was a close friend of Lemin, our driver, whom we now consider a father figure on our journeys. Fatima welcomed us into her tent, offering traditional Mauritanian chai with a warm smile that carried both kindness and resilience. She lived with her mother and sister, and Lemin always stopped by with small gifts whenever he passed through. When we returned in 2025, she remembered us vividly. This time her presence felt brighter, her energy renewed, a quiet testament to strength and the enduring warmth of desert hospitality.
