Internal Weather

RSVP (Internal Only)

In a crowded room, there is a certain performance we are all expected to give. We call it 'reading the room,' but for some of us, the room is simply too loud to read. This digital painting is about the friction of the ADHD mind in a public space. While everyone else is moving in sync, your brain is a riot of static and splintered thoughts. I used these heavy, jagged lines to show what that internal noise feels like. It is a vibrating, restless energy that you can’t just turn off because you’re in public. The title, RSVP (Internal Only), is a nod to that feeling of being physically present but mentally elsewhere. You’ve accepted the invitation to be there, but your mind has retreated into its own world just to survive the overstimulation. It is a portrait of the 'mask' slipping. It’s about the exhaustion of trying to be still when your thoughts are everywhere at once. It is not that I am 'lost' in my head; it is that my head is the only place where the signal makes sense. If you look at the eyes, you see the effort. It is the strain of trying to stay 'locked in' while the rest of the self is already drifting away. I didn't use a 'clean' line because there is nothing clean about a distracted mind. To draw this smoothly would be to tell a lie.
