This work reinterprets the grim, hyper-detailed aesthetic pioneered by Kentaro Miura in Berserk, translating its oppressive chiaroscuro and anatomical intensity into the Pephistory visual lexicon. The towering warrior, clearly modeled on Miura’s iconic Black Swordsman, retains the monumental weight of the Dragonslayer blade and the stoic, battle-scarred expression that characterize Miura’s early 1990s period, in which cross-hatching and density of line were used to manifest psychological torment as much as physical brutality. At the warrior’s feet, Pepe appears transformed into a crouching demonic familiar, his soft, melancholic physiognomy rendered with unusual muscular tension. This juxtaposition mirrors Miura’s own habit of pairing divine or monstrous energies with fragile human interiority. The scattered skulls, corrosive sky, and obsessive ink textures echo the Eclipse-era compositions, where despair becomes a landscape and character at once. By inserting Pepe into this visual universe, the piece performs a double gesture: it honors Miura’s mastery of emotional violence through line, and simultaneously reframes it through the ironic, existential vulnerability of Pepe. The result is a homage that bridges two cultural mythologies, dark fantasy manga and internet iconography, while remaining faithful to the moral gravity and atmospheric density of the original Berserk canon.
