This work reimagines the aesthetics of early 20th-century Japanese advertisement posters, merging Taishō-era Art Deco elegance with the playful presence of Pepe. Dressed in a refined kimono with understated geometric patterns, the figure embodies the era’s fascination with modern femininity, self-care, and Western-inflected visual design. The hand mirror, an icon of both vanity and self-reflection, evokes the rise of commercial cosmetics culture in urban Japan. The warm pastel palette, stylized floral arabesques, and soft grain texture replicate the lithographic quality of period beauty posters. The Japanese text at the bottom, Bijin Keshōhin (“Beauty Cosmetics”), reinforces the historic commercial tone while playfully inserting Pepe into the lineage of modern Japanese visual advertising.
