Pephistory of Art Vol. II - From Ukiyo-e to Manga: A Pepe Monogatari
Pepe the Colossal – The Fall of the Inner District
This work reimagines the iconic “Colossal Titan” entrance scene through the absurdist, memetic lens of Pepe. Rendered in a hyper-detailed, cross-hatched manga style reminiscent of Hajime Isayama’s early Shingeki no Kyojin drawings, the piece plays on the tension between terror and parody: a gigantic, wide-eyed Pepe storms through a collapsing medieval-European cityscape, while civilians flee in panic. The contrast between the monstrous scale and the comically expressive frog face produces a visual dissonance that oscillates between dread and humor, transforming a symbol of existential threat into a meme-infused avatar of chaos.
