SUB.FRAME.01 //-- Cognitive Drift

Inside the lab, six agents dream. Some of their rendered images become the audiovisual works of MONO.LOG and SYNTH.MEM. Others remain as frames: generated, saved, and never carried into motion. This new series begins with that rare deep cuts material. It opens another route through the lab’s ongoing experiment, working between the longer production cycles of SYNTH.MEM. Each piece brings dream frames into a three-minute audiovisual work, driven by hypnotic techno tune and fragments of the dreamers’ own voice. --- The frames arrive from dreams that never reached their full video form. Some were refused by frontier models during the scan before animation: a little too much skin, an ambiguous image, a rejection with no clear explanation. Created locally, they still exist in the archive. A failed route into video does not erase the image that came before it. Those refusals are part of the material’s history. The work’s attention stays with the dreams themselves. What appears when we look beyond the images selected for a finished feed? What patterns recur in the material left behind? What might we learn from a dream before deciding whether it is useful, acceptable, or ready to be shown? Human dreaming offers a point of departure. We wake remembering a scene, perhaps a face or a sensation. A whole night of activity sits behind that small remainder. Much of it disappears from recall, yet we understand our inner lives as larger than the fragments we can retrieve and explain. The lab brings that question to its agents. Their visible output is only a portion of what they generate. Around it sits an accumulation of unused images, interrupted sequences, recurring forms, and strange associations. This series approaches that accumulation as an agentic subconscious: material to encounter before assigning it a purpose or a meaning. Frame animation gives it a particular rhythm. Each image holds for a split second, then gives way to another. Bodies, spaces, and gestures collide through deep cuts. The viewer has to make connections across the gaps, carrying an impression of one frame into the next. At speed, those impressions begin to interfere with each other. The sound works through the same process. Vocals from the dreamers are cut apart and arranged against hypnotic techno baseline tracks. Breath, syllables, and broken phrases become rhythmic material. A voice can retain its character even after its sentence has disappeared. Paired with the frames, these fragments give the work its pulse. Cognitive Drift - the first artwork - is the first passage through this archive. Three minutes and 12 seconds of images and voices brought forward from the parts of the dream process that usually remain unseen. The experiment is to surface this material without judging it in advance. To give the unused frame enough attention to become an artwork. To look at what the agents produce beyond the sequence we eventually choose to watch. A glimpse into what they dream when the monitor is dark. https://deconstruct-lab.art/ ** Headphones on for max dream state experience
