The Invisible Prison
In this photograph, I wanted to show how, sometimes, in an attempt to protect ourselves from emotional pain, judgment, and external pressures, we build walls around ourselves until those same walls become our limitations. The bubble wrap symbolizes this protection; something designed to shield us from impact and harm, yet at the same time, it surrounds us and keeps us trapped. Its transparency also suggests that others may be able to see us, but that doesn't necessarily mean they can reach or understand our inner world and emotions.
The torn sections and popped bubbles represent the pain and wounds we experience despite all our efforts to protect ourselves. They show that no barrier can completely shield us from hurt. Sometimes, the very protection we create ends up revealing our vulnerability even more.
Through this photograph, I wanted to explore how thin the line between protecting ourselves and imprisoning ourselves can be. Sometimes, in trying to avoid getting hurt, we end up taking away our own freedom, our ability to connect with others, and our opportunity to truly live.
