4 Seasons of Redthread Vision

4 Seasons of Redthread Vision

"A visual poetry of machine-imagined vision, exploring the four seasons through grand, site-specific installations set in nature, *prompThreading* by human and AI collaboration, trained on the living archive of my physical and digital work." (*prompThreading* – A term I’ve coined to describe the process of envisioning machine threading my Redthread art digitally.) __ AI Short Film (3 mins) 1/1 Completed in 2024. This human and machine-collaborated vision connects the past, present, and future of Redthread art, evolving from DALL·E (2022) to MidJourney (2023) and Runway (2024). Rooted in the dataset of my work history, including the Redthread sculptures and installations narrative (2010–2021), it explores a future vision of art through continuous digital evolution and physical innovation. This belief spans across cultures, with roots in Eastern traditions, including Chinese, Korean, and Japanese mythology, and finds resonance in Western philosophy, such as the Greek concept of Moirai, the Fates who weave the threads of life. It symbolizes human connections, relationships, and the unseen networks that shape our lives. Originally conceived as red thread sculptures and architectural installations visualizing human networks through social media data, this project now evolves through AI. The use of machine learning allows me to transform my earlier physical works into digital installations, pushing the boundaries of my practice. AI acts as a conceptual vision board, creating surreal seasonal transformations, which are then brought to life in an AI short film. These installations shift and evolve through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, continuing the exploration of connection and transformation in a constantly changing world. Philosophically, my practice explores the invisible threads connecting cultures and identities, reflecting my own personal experience of being born in Korea and living in America. The red thread embodies this natural, invisible connection, which I believe is always present between individuals and cultures, guiding us to our destined encounters. This idea aligns with both Eastern beliefs and Western mythological traditions, suggesting that life’s connections are not random but woven into the fabric of existence. Technologically, AI serves as a partner in this process. I train machine learning models on my original datasets—comprising red thread sculptures and social media data—allowing the AI to interpret and evolve these physical works into new digital forms. The project explores the intersection of human creativity and machine intelligence, creating a collaboration where both human and AI visions coalesce. Through the merging of art, technology, and human connection, 4 Seasons of Redthread Vision transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, bringing an ancient belief into a new digital realm.
