DAMNATIO

DAMNATIO takes its name from damnatio memoriae - the ancient Roman practice of erasing a person from history: chiselling their face from monuments, scratching their name from records, condemning them to be forgotten as though they had never existed. Here, a single painted face is subjected to that sentence through glitch and digital decay which corrode the portrait. The series continues my ongoing interrogation of visibility and identity under exposure: what it means to be seen, recorded, and in the same gesture, deleted.
