(Got) RID (of) MTV
MTV might have launched thousands of videographer and related careers, but at the great expense of popular music worldwide. In the 1970s, music was the true melting pot. It was common to hear elements of Rock, Country, Jazz, and Classical, all under one captivating, mind-altering soundscape. But that was a revolt of sorts. And the Industry - backed by the Govt - was fighting against this sonic uprising (with such staged protests as the "Disco Sucks" movement, etc). Then MTV delivered the fatal poison, turning music into a thoughtless backdrop for nonsensical videos featuring whoever was chosen by the new gatekeepers (MTV of course) to lead the way to where we are now: a musical graveyard of non-inspiration with AI music "creation" being this generation's magnum dope-us. So, when I heard today that Jan 1, 2026 marked the end of the evil M-pire, I experienced uncommon joy and holiday cheer. Good RIDdance, MTV. Rust in deterioration. You don't deserve peace.
