In the Space Between Me and the World
Between who I am and what the world asks of me,
there is a distance no words can fill.
Perhaps “I” am neither what I see in the mirror,
nor what others remember of me;
perhaps I am simply this brief pause before I return to the world once again.
Somewhere between staying and leaving, between accepting and letting go,
there is a moment when a person
belongs neither apart from the world, nor entirely to it.
And perhaps all of life is an attempt to understand this distance.
