Gameboy Camera (1998) image file extracted from Gameboy Cartridge and minted on the Ethereum blockchain. Emulator 2: Tunnel of Light was commissioned by Fondazione Aversano. Its founder, Justin Aversano, and the artist have known each other as photographers since well before either minted a work on a blockchain. The image draws on a psychedelic experience they shared on the day they first met, and stands as a homage to that beginning. Using a 1998 Gameboy Camera, a device with a resolution of just 0.014 megapixels, the artist reconstructs the moment from memory, embracing the creative limitations of early digital photography as the medium closest to the way the moment is remembered. Fondazione Aversano, receives a unique artifact as a gift: the original Gameboy Camera and Gameboy DMG console used to create the artwork. The DMG console, customized with an upgraded backlit IPS LCD screen, serves as the native frame for viewing the digital file in its original form. The console and camera provide a native experience of the work, honoring the origins of this nostalgic medium.
