If Only You Were in My Shoes
Not looking at me.
Not listening from somewhere outside.
Actually inside it.
Inside everything I have lived.
Every place I have been.
Every thing that changed me before you met me.
I wonder if understanding another person is even possible sometimes.
We say, put yourself in my shoes, as though a whole life is something another person can simply step into.
Some experiences are too large to be entered from the outside.
Every pair of shoes carries a world larger than the one we know.
And all we can ever do is stand near each other, trying to imagine the size of what the other person carries.
