The Body That Dreams
For a long time, I have been thinking that imagination may not be in our minds at all. Perhaps it is in the body, the place where the body slowly joins the dream, and the boundary between ourselves and the world fades away.
For me, metamorphosis has never meant becoming something else; it has been more like the gradual loss of what we thought we were. But before the body truly changes, it is imagination that opens the way, a place where the new form, before becoming real, is first imagined. I began this work from such a moment: a place between imagination and transformation, where the coral was still only an imagination.
For me, identity is not something fixed that can be held onto. It is something that takes shape again and again, like coral that slowly grows over the body.
