Gatekeepers
Gatekeepers confronts the quiet but deeply entrenched systems that determine who is allowed to participate in the cultural conversation. For emerging artists, talent and dedication are rarely enough; validation often depends on approval from institutions, curators, critics, algorithms, collectors, and industry insiders who act as arbiters of taste and legitimacy. These gatekeepers shape visibility itself — deciding whose work is platformed, funded, reviewed, or archived — and in doing so, they influence not only careers, but the direction of culture. The barrier is rarely explicit. It is built from networks, reputation, access, timing, privilege, and unspoken rules that are difficult to decipher from the outside.
