It was a wild night. The city looked peaceful while Disney Princess and I trashed a Chipotle downtown throwing around pathetic phrases that bounced before landing on some unprepared ears, the way unhealed trauma lands on innocent children. Occasionally I would try to be mildly funny, but it made the sweat on my forehead colder. Something was preventing even a shadow of a smile from appearing. The hurt was relentlessly flattening everything like a thousand surgical lights. Nobody could remember which backstab came first or whose carnitas went cold earlier. The corn felt like gravel in my mouth and my chest ached under the weight of intelligent carnivore guilt. All this, and other visitors were not even aware of the tornado thrashing around the shop. It was a wild night.
