"Quetzalcoatl de Soumaya"

"Quetzalcoatl de Soumaya" is the first relic from the first mixed reality performance in history to take place inside the Museo Soumaya, created by Sarai Mora Cabrera, known as Creatress. Sculpted in 3D using Gravity Sketch on the Meta Quest Pro Mixed Reality headset, the artwork was inspired by the energy of the Mesoamerican god Quetzalcoatl and the deep history of the artists and art within the museum, including the life size replica of Michelangelo's David exhibited in the same room where the performance took place. The piece was virtually sculpted live during a performance staged in Mexico City on October 17, 2025, during the closing gala and awards ceremony of the Las Flores Film Festival, where Creatress's short film "Legend of Quetzalcoatl" received an honorable mention. Never before in history had an artist performed inside the museum using a mixed reality headset, a first accomplished with Creatress accompanied by the music of JJ Haya, who suggested the collaboration. The gala was held inside the museum's iconic curved, aluminum clad landmark, designed by architect Fernando Romero. Built by Carlos Slim as a tribute to his late wife, Soumaya Domit, the museum offers free admission to the public and houses a collection of nearly 70,000 works spanning the 15th through 20th centuries. Among them are the largest collection of Auguste Rodin sculpture outside of France, works by Old Master Artemisia Gentileschi and Surrealist Leonora Carrington, and paintings by Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Diego Rivera, and Vincent van Gogh. Quetzalcoatl, the god of wind, wisdom, and creation, is deeply associated with the arts and often seen as the protector of artisans. Revered across Mesoamerican culture as the ultimate patron of arts, crafts, and knowledge, he was credited with teaching humanity the skills needed to build civilization, from weaving and metalwork to the ritual calendar that timed sacred festivals and artistic performance, to music and dance, to the sacred art of writing carried through the codices. As the divine source of creativity itself, Quetzalcoatl is the fitting spirit behind a work born at the meeting point of ancient myth and emerging technology.
