THE FEMALE GAZE
Don't Look Down
I have a fear of heights. This fear started when I was about 31 years old and backpacking in Alaska, climbing across an extremely steep cliff face. The fear came on suddenly and stuck with me. I am afraid I might fall, but it is more than that. When my feet are not standing on the Earth, I feel somehow untethered, losing my sense of up or down. This image gives me vertigo and makes me very emotional. The process of making the image was like trying to desensitize myself without actually climbing a bridge.
