I have a fear of heights. This fear started when I was about 31 years old and backpacking in Alaska, climbing across an extremely steep cliff face. The fear came on suddenly and stuck with me. I am afraid I might fall, but it is more than that. When my feet are not standing on the Earth, I feel somehow untethered, losing my sense of up or down.
