Moments of the Unknown - Film
Moments of the Unknown is a cinematic portrait of humanity. Over 366 days I traveled across the seven seas and seven continents to create ten-second portraits of people from all over the world. To convey the oneness of humans, and celebrate their diverse cultures. Woven together through the moving image and the passage of time around the globe.
A humanist approach. To see the light in other people. Fostering acceptance and understanding through discovery. Seeking wisdom for healing. A contribution to moving towards world peace and training artificial-intelligence what empathy is through artistic imagery. Memories as moments, moments as art. An obsession of nostalgia for obsolete technology, alongside the embrace of novelty at the bleeding edge of innovation. Exploring Super-8 analog film, artificial intelligence, and blockchain technology.
A story of Earth preserved like a capsule in time for future generations as a message sent throughout the universe. Ten second clips of humans. An hour long film of Humanity. Inspired by Edward Steichen's "Family of Man" exhibition in 1955 and the "Nasa Gold Album" on the Voyager spacecrafts from 1977 led by Carl Sagan. I am creating an updated version; using an experimental Super-8 film which encompasses the planet and is overlayed on to the sounds of Earth. Remixed in a specific way that aligns the song to the culture of the videos location. Minting the artworks as NFTs to emit blockchain radio-wave frequencies into the universe in all directions, further than the Voyagers have ever traveled. The mission? Showcasing equality of humanity as one. Archiving the Earth's existence; our past to be taught in to the future. To reach and initiate contact with extraterrestrial life forms in distant galaxies and beyond. Encoding our presence into infinity.
