Chapter 3. Paragraph 1. The Source of Life.
In my large collection of stories "Balinese Motives",
I continue to reflect on the theme of water, feminine, and the birth of the world.
Water is the cradle of life and the progenitor of all life. In the major religions and cultures of mankind, water was the ritual means of purification. Our ancestors also believed that oceans, seas, lakes and rivers were inhabited by all kinds of magical inhabitants: mermaids and nymphs, naiads and nereids...
In one of the oldest cultures on earth, the Babylonian-Assyrian, there is a mention of the goddess Tiamat. She acted as the personification of the primordial element in the form of salt water.
When we study history, we see that from Assyrian to Egyptian mythology, from ancient Greek to Slavic, in all cultures there is the image of a woman-goddess of water. They are a symbol of strength and freedom, guardians of the water element and harmony.
