He unintentionally crafted the maze. In the moment, it felt like a single pathway, but over time, the overlapping corridors only lead to confusion. As he attempts to untangle the mess he’s made, he somehow manages to make things worse. In moments of clarity (or frustration) he stops to reflect. He understands what it might take to find his way out. But as he stares at the exit, he still doesn't leave.
