Carols for the Doomed
They packed the car with dead celebrations,
Tinsel and gold dripping like lost time.
Eyes wide, voices hoarse—
Screaming songs no one wrote.
The night bled shadows on painted faces,
Gifts wrapped for no one,
Under a sky too dark to remember.
Drive on, they said,
To nowhere, faster—
Before the dawn finds us still here.
