Exit Clause
Snow settles on rusted chrome,
Santa leans back,
A crimson weight against white oblivion.
The engine hums,
Its promises thin—
The road is ice, the night too long.
His sack holds nothing but silence,
Beneath a sign no one reads.
He watches the smoke drift up,
And forgets where he was going.
