The Hawaiian monk seal is one of the rarest seal species in the world and is native only to the Hawaiian Islands. Found across the Hawaiian archipelago, especially the remote Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, but increasingly seen on main islands like Oʻahu and Maui. Spend most of their time in the ocean hunting fish, octopus, and crustaceans. Often come ashore to rest, molt, or give birth—you might see them lounging on beaches.
