Just offshore of Haleʻiwa, I came face-to-face with a whale shark moving quietly through the deep blue Pacific. My GoPro was down to 5% battery—barely anything left. I knew I might only have one chance. I slipped into position, watched it approach, and pressed the shutter. One photograph. The whale shark passed close enough for me to capture its massive body, unmistakable pattern of white spots, and the light dancing across the surface above it. Seconds like this can't be recreated. The battery percentage didn't matter anymore had the frame. 5% battery. One opportunity. One image I’ll never forget. Whale Shark is very very rare to see here on Oahu and I had one chance. One image I been trying to get more images for over a decade. Never to be seen again!
