Medium: Generative code (p5.js) The piece was created using p5.js through an iterative process of creative coding. ChatGPT was used as a collaborative tool to help refine the artistic vision and develop the code structure. Artist Bio: Jason Yu is a first-year Materials Science and Data Science major at UCLA. Through conducting computational materials research, he has struck up an interest in AI, vibe coding, and most recently, digital art. Guided by a strong sense of empathy and curiosity about others, he uses his creative pieces as a medium to explore what it means to be human. Artist Statement: Between Swirls is a generative art piece that simulates drifting currents and ripple systems. Inspired by Fibonacci sequence and fractal behavior, the swirls move across the canvas in random directions, sometimes overlapping, other times avoiding each other. When two do meet, there is a fusion of color, and new patterns emerge. Through exploring the relationships between color, this piece explores the ideas of interaction, impermanence, and coexistence. Between Swirls invites audiences to meditate, observe, and find peace among continuous change.
