THE CROWN IS STILL A CAGE

THE CROWN IS STILL A CAGE

I was thinking about the idea behind Batman in The Dark Knight, the man who creates an identity strong enough to protect others, but eventually becomes trapped inside that identity. That idea felt universal to me. The armor represents the version of ourselves we build to survive. The crown represents the roles we inherit or choose: power, responsibility, success, leadership. But beneath both is a human being who still has to carry the weight of everything. The Yoruba tribal mark on his cheek is important too. It represents something inherited, an identity that existed before the armor, before the crown, before the world decided who he should become. So the work asks a simple question: when you become the person everyone needs you to be, what happens to the person you were? Maybe the armor protects him. Maybe it has already become his prison.
