Bombed Out, 1941
As his flat burns in the Blitz, the drawings rise out of the fire and escape as the creatures they held. Rendered in black ink and crimson on thin wartime paper, this piece pays tribute to Austin Osman Spare's night of 10 May 1941: the bomb that destroyed his home and every drawing in it, and the work that came back stronger. Part of the Austin Spare Legacy collection.
