Utopia
Edge of the Coast
As Freud pointed out, nothing repressed ever disappears; it only shifts. What appears in place of the face in this figure is the return of what was thought to be forgotten. The kneeling body carries not a defeat, but the moment when the self could not resist what came from within. For a person is most shattered when confronted with what they have hidden most from themselves.
