They contemplated the moment when the Lamb of God gave His life, sealing the eternal defeat of darkness and opening the way to redemption for all humanity. It was not just a physical event. It was a spiritual war at its climax, an eternal act that split history in two. Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. - John 19:30 This verse is very powerful, because in “It is finished” (in Greek, “Tetelestai”) Jesus declares that his work of redemption was completely accomplished: the debt of sin had been paid in full.
