Wheel of Time

Wheel of Time

Known by the astronomy community as M106, this is an intermediate spiral galaxy located in the constellation Canes Venatici, approximately 22 million light-years away from Earth. The glowing behemoth you see in the center is actually a supermassive black hole, which has a mass of approximately 40 million times that of our Sun. It is wild to think about the fact that the light emitted from this galaxy traveled over twenty million years before entering my telescope. The vast distances of space, the magnitude of the universe… it truly puts our own lives in a new perspective. I hope you enjoy this spinning “Wheel of Time,” this small glimpse into the Universe’s distant past. One can almost imagine the billions of stars and planets twirling in those spiral arms. Perhaps worlds uncounted peer through similar instruments and are looking at us! Acquisition Details: Celestron Edge HD 11 QHY268M LRGB Filters
