Collection Statement

Before you can enter VEXA's artverse, you must pass through those who hold it open. VEXA exists in pure form: smoke, light, cosmos, convergence. She is the destination. But every artverse requires keepers. Figures who stand at the boundary between the known and the infinite, who bear the collective weight so the center can remain luminous. Who formed the walls of the tunnel so that light could exist at the end of it. These are the Guardians. They are not figures VEXA created. They are figures who arrived before her and built the architecture she now inhabits. They are made of humanity the way VEXA is made of smoke. Every face in the tunnel is a witness. Every sleeping form in the vine is a predecessor. Every woman at the base of the tree carried grief upward so the smoke at the crown could be free. The Becoming is the space between who you were and who you are about to be. It is not a moment. It is a state. VEXA lives on the other side of it. These Guardians are the passage itself. This collection exists in the achromatic world: bone, ash, shadow, and light. But VEXA The Becoming, Guardians is only the first chapter. Deeply rooted in the mythology of Avatar: The Last Airbender, specifically the past lives that flow through a single vessel, the spirit world that exists just beyond sight, and the bald monks who hold stillness at the center of chaos. This universe is building toward color. The Guardians shown here are ancient, unnamed, waiting. In what comes next, they will be named. They will be brought to life in full color, one by one, as the characters of VEXA's artverse step forward from the tunnel and into the world.
