Summer is an exploration of a feeling Jennifer Panepinto remembers from childhood—the feeling of letting go, being completely present, and noticing the world around her. As a quiet, often solitary child, Panepinto spent much of her summers at her grandparents’ house in Maine, where she would explore on her own, especially near the water. She would walk the shoreline, collect things from the beach, and become absorbed in the small details of the environment around her. Those moments had a particular kind of magic: there was no agenda, no sense of time passing, just the feeling of being there. Summer is an attempt to return to that state of mind—to hold onto the rare moments when everything else becomes quiet and the present moment is enough. The collection is about preserving moments that feel almost impossible to capture: light flickering across water, the shimmer of a reflection, or the sensation of seeing something for a fraction of a second and somehow experiencing it as much longer. Through soft glitches, shifting perspectives, and endlessly looping sequences, Panepinto stretches these fleeting moments beyond their natural duration. The collection contains 93 unique glitch artworks, one for each day of Summer, moving through coastlines, farmhouses, gardens, water, light, and dreamlike scenes inspired by the Northeast and the freedom of summer. The works exist somewhere between memory and imagination, allowing the viewer to linger inside a moment rather than simply pass through it. The GIF is an inherently limited format—finite in color, resolution, and frames, often requiring artists to communicate an idea with as few frames as possible. In Summer, those limitations become part of the meaning. There is something inherently impossible about trying to preserve a season or a feeling, just as there is something impossible about wanting summer to last forever. Panepinto has always struggled with the end of summer; as soon as it is over, she finds herself chasing the next one, trying to recapture that feeling of freedom, wonder, and presence. Within these loops, however, summer doesn't have to end. The moments continue to flicker, expand, and return, creating a small space where time disappears and imagination can run wild.
