At midnight sugar calls my name in velvet tone, “Open the fridge, just one more bite, you’re not alone.” Candied apples wink with glossy, crimson lies “We’re fruit,” they whisper, “healthy, pure, no compromise.” Frosting swirls in creamy dreams that lift me when I’m low, icing hugs the ache inside and makes the darkness go. But every sweetened promise sticks like addictive glue, one taste becomes a dozen more I swear the last is true. Yet deep beneath the candied shine, the truth begins to bite: a sugar-coated cage I crave each and every night. This acrylic painting is created in surrealism rebranded in my contemporary style and poetry, inspired by Amedeo Modigliani, one of my greatest influences among the old masters. Like him, I reject perfection. Modigliani didn’t paint what we see, he painted what we hide. He embraced human imperfection through elongated necks, simplified forms, and raw vulnerability, revealing the soul beneath the surface. I paint the same way.
