Souls Under the Northern Sky

When I saw this barn, the moon was so big it looked like it was pushing itself up from behind the roof. I was up in northern Arizona where the sky feels endless and the stars hang there so clear that it almost makes you feel small standing under them. The barn sat in the middle of that open land, worn down and barely holding itself together, like it had seen too many years pass and too many people come and go. I pulled over because the light from that moon made everything feel unreal. The wood on the barn glowed just enough to show every crack and bend in it. The air felt strange, heavy in a way that made my chest tighten. I stood there looking across the fields and I swear I could feel something moving out there, not with my eyes but somewhere deeper inside me. It felt like the lost souls that once worked that land were still out there walking the rows, still tied to the soil they spent their lives turning. That place had an energy that stayed with me long after I left. Some barns just look old and worn down, but this one felt alive in a different way. Like the past never really left and the fields were still holding onto every soul that ever worked them under that wide northern sky. “Standing there under that giant moon, I felt like the past never clocked out.” AKA Chambo (Digital Artwork) 2026
