Portraits of Repair
The break
Every portrait in this series carries the same thing: a fracture that runs through the face. It is not drawn on top. It is bare paper, a place the code never paints, and it is there from the first mark. Stitches of rust cross it, pulled tight from the outside. Most hold. One has always given way. These are people who have been through something and are still here. The repair shows, and it has become part of the face.
Living portraits
The portraits are not videos. They are drawn live, in code, every time you open them. They breathe, and they blink in their own rhythm. Their eyes follow your cursor or your finger, and a touch makes them blink. The light in the room follows the clock of whoever is looking: warm in the morning, golden at dusk; after dark the room dims and a lamp lights the face. Over the two years after release, each break slowly heals. It narrows toward a hairline, new skin lines its edges, and the rust of the stitches darkens. It never closes.
From the world of Vestiges
Vestiges is a series about what a loss leaves behind. Almost Whole is a form with a fracture that stitches try and fail to close. The Weight of the Interval is a piece that broke away and is still held by a single thread. The Mending Table is a woman sewing a cracked bowl by a window. Portraits of Repair are the people of that world: each one marked, each one mended, none of them whole again, all of them still going on.
