Khaleh Ghulak is a frightening folkloric being from the beliefs of the people of Jahrom in Fars Province. The name combines Khaleh, meaning “maternal aunt” in Persian, with Ghulak, a name associated with a supernatural creature. She is a type of Al, a supernatural female entity believed to target women who have recently given birth and steal their newborns. According to local belief, Khaleh Ghulak visits homes during the night while the mother is still in the vulnerable period following childbirth.
