Blue Man’s Dreams

Hide and Seek

Sometimes the inner struggle does not begin with our own doubt, but with a foreign voice that becomes so familiar that we eventually stop recognizing it as foreign. We learn to hear ourselves through others - through expectations, judgments, fears, and beliefs that enter our lives from the outside. Over time, someone else’s opinion can penetrate so deeply that it begins to sound from within as if it were our own thought. We argue with ourselves, doubt ourselves, make decisions - without realizing that part of this inner dialogue was written by someone else. This is how the illusion of our own choice begins. The inner struggle is no longer simply a conflict between two opposing desires. It becomes a conflict between our own voice and a voice we have mistaken for our own. One speaks from within; the other speaks through us. That is why the struggle in this work can never be entirely free. Beyond the conscious conflict, there is something quietly shaping its direction. The puppeteer is not a specific person, but the idea of external influence itself - another person’s gaze, an imposed norm, the fear of rejection, or the desire to become who others expect us to be. But perhaps the most difficult question is not who controls us, but whether we are even capable of recognizing the voice that does not belong to us. Dreams become a space where this boundary dissolves. The subconscious is no longer bound by ordinary logic and gives form to what normally remains invisible. What exists in reality only as a thought, a fear, or an inner sensation takes physical shape within the dream. “Hide and Seek” is a search for one’s own voice among all the voices we carry within ourselves. An attempt to separate what is truly ours from what was imposed upon us; desire from borrowed desire; our own will from a will we accepted long ago without even realizing it. And perhaps true freedom begins at the very moment we ask ourselves: “Is this really my voice?” by Terri Moon July, 2026
