Hundreds of homes and farms damaged or destroyed Major agricultural losses on the North Shore Total damage estimated over $1 billion statewide Many families lost belongings, vehicles, and livelihoods. Why it was so bad Extreme rainfall intensity (climate-related factors increasing storm strength) Old plantation-era drainage systems and waterways not maintained well Flat agricultural land = water spreads fast and wide Back-to-back storms didn’t give the land time to recover Basically a historic rainstorm turned the North Shore into rivers overnight—homes flooded, families evacuated, and entire communities left rebuilding after the water receded. Seeing this unfold in real time was scary and one that could have been a lot worse. We saved people off rooftops and was very quick to react. Friends had access to heavy machinery which is how we did rescue. Machinery that could maintain the rivers of water was the only solution. I would call it a miracle. This image shows the runoff of toxic garbage. The waters off the coast is far from clean and at extreme hazard levels. Sharing perspective of the ocean can determine the damage caused upstream. I will say this was the worse back to back storms in my entire lifetime. This will be open editions for two weeks. Every single sale will go towards our efforts to clean up this ocean.
